I'll be the first to tell you I've never been a Five Nights at Freddy's fan. The series debuted when I was a good bit older than the demographic that ended up latching onto it. Over the years, though, I ended up learning a decent bit about the series through osmosis, as a few of my friends were fans.
Speaking of friends who are fans, my pal SpookyRick reached out to me because he enjoyed my voice work on GIMMIKO, which we both also playtest for. Frickbear's 3 has an impeccable style, both in its art and its general vibe, so despite being a total FNaF outsider, I couldn't say no. I was definitely tickled! And then he reached out again, and again, and probably at least one more time still. He just kept giving me characters to play! I was slated to voice even MORE characters, but some I just didn't get around to recording, and some, including one I actually did record for, went to other actors just so I wasn't COMPLETELY dominating the cast list, which, in the end, I still was!
Okay, stop reading here if you plan to play though the game and meet all the characters yourself! That is to say, SPOILERS AHEAD!
I voice a whopping TEN characters, including Freddy himself! Perhaps more accurately, I voice ten and one-third characters, or even more, if you wanna get technical! The full list of characters I play is Freddy, Withered Freddy, Golden Freddy, Springtrap, Music Man, Balora (including as part of Molten Freddy—that's the one-third), Mr. Chipper, Popgoes, Animdude and the original character, Salvage. I also voiced Mike Schmidt in one of the trailers, for all of two words. I recorded for Jeremy for the same trailer, too, but that went unused.
That's right, I play the FNaF series mascot, the series antagonist and the series creator... and I've never even touched the FNaF games! How crazy is that? Probably unsurprisingly, though, my favorite character to play was Salvage. He has more to say than the others, and he's a particularly devious and demented villain! I loved doing his crazed laugh at the end of the fight, and I especially loved delivering the staple villain line, "did you really think you could defeat me?!" A big thank you to the writers for that one! I also really enjoyed playing Freddy, since I got to read for a few extra things, like the aforementioned trailer. At SpookyRick's request, I also recorded a few Freddy lines for fellow Frickbear voice actor Zachary Attackary's Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers mod...? I'm not sure whether or not that's something that was ever finished or released publicly, but if it was, yes, that's me as Freddy!
I'll end this with a big thank you to SpookyRick! You made a killer game! I don't have the nerves to play it myself (or any horror game, for that matter), but watching others stream it has been flat-out hypnotic. It's colorful, tense, funny and an all-around good time! You're also a good voice director, filling me (again, someone with minimal FNaF knowledge) in on much needed details and context, and letting me improvise here and there. It was fun! Let's do this again sometime!
